Advances in Breast Cancer Treatment: The 2nd Izmir Breast Cancer Symposium

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elvina Almuradova participated in the 2nd Izmir Breast Cancer Symposium, held on 19–20 September 2026. The meeting brought colleagues together to discuss recent advances, emerging scientific evidence and evolving treatment strategies in breast cancer.

The symposium provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and consider how new research can inform clinical practice.

Why Is Individualized Treatment Important?

Breast cancer treatment is shaped by the characteristics of the disease. Pathology findings, hormone receptor status, HER2 status and the extent of the cancer help guide treatment planning. Understanding these features is an important step in identifying suitable options for each patient.

A Range of Treatment Options

Depending on the type and stage of breast cancer, treatment may include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy or immunotherapy. These approaches may be used in combination, with the treatment plan developed together with the cancer care team.

Targeted therapies act on specific biological features involved in cancer growth. Biomarker testing can help determine whether a patient may benefit from these treatments; they are appropriate for selected situations rather than every breast cancer diagnosis.

Scientific Exchange in Breast Cancer Care

Scientific meetings create space for clinicians to discuss research, share experience and examine changing treatment approaches. Dr. Almuradova’s participation in the symposium formed part of this exchange, with a focus on current developments in breast cancer care.
